Sarahbeth remains an avid supporter of programs to give children the opportunity from an early age to do great things.

And READING is the first step to almost anything great!

Sarahbeth is teaming up with Books From Birth of Middle Tennessee for their reading weekend at Barnes and Noble locations June 12-16th.

She will be at Barnes & Noble of Opry Mills on SATURDAY, JUNE 14th at 1:30 PM to read a book aloud from the famous Imagination Library.  Bring your kids and make it a day full of shopping and READING!

Books From Birth is a program set up by Governor Phil Bredesen in conjunction with Dolly Parton and her Imagination Library to provide a FREE book each month to ALL children whose parents sign them up, ages 0-5, in Tennessee.  So far over 4 MILLION books have been given to children in Tennessee since 2004!

The report of the Commission on Reading states that “the single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children.”

If you will be in the area, make sure to stop by for lots of fun, and special character appearances. There will be many other readings throughout the weekend at Barnes and Nobles in Cool Springs, Hendersonville and Opry Mills, so please click the link below to find the best location and time for you and your child or for information on how to sign up for or donate to this FREE program!

"One in three women will get cancer in her lifetime, and 58 percent of women say that they fear hair loss more than any other side effect of cancer," said Amanda Hill, brand manager, Pantene. "At Pantene we are passionate about women’s hair and women’s health, and we are introducing Pantene Beautiful Lengths as a personal, profound way Americans can support women in their life-changing struggle."

Pantene Beautiful Lengths is a campaign launched in July 2006 whose primary goal is to collect hair donations (eight inches at a time) and pledges for more (for those of you who want to grow their hair and help when you have enough to donate) to provide real-hair wigs to women suffering from cancer-related hair loss.

Pantene will work with Hair U Wear, the leading global producer of real-hair wigs and extensions, to transform donated hair into high quality wigs for women in need.

Diane Lane is an ambassador of this program,

having donated eight inches of her own hair, and

Hilary Swank recently donated her hair, and has encouraged other women to help her reach a "One Million Inches Of Hair" goal.

Sarahbeth, having kept up her trademark long blondish red tresses for more than ten years now, took this challenge to heart and had a whole TEN inches chopped off to support a cause that has become closer to her heart since a close family friend has been directly affected by Cancer this year.

Sarahbeth wants to challenge anyone who has at least eight inches of hair to donate to follow her lead, see the requirements needed to donate, and make the cut that counts!  And if you have shorter hair, you can still participate, as previously mentioned, by pledging to donate eight inches...And begin growing your hair now!

For people interested in following the example of Sarahbeth and the Pantene Beautiful Lengths hair ambassadors, including Diane Lane and Hillary Swank, or find out other ways to participate, including how to be considered as a Beautiful Lengths hometown ambassador, and to receive a free donation kit, including:

  • Tips for growing healthy, beautiful hair
  • Ponytail measuring and cutting instructions with accompanying diagrams
  • Hair ties and a plastic bag for collection
  • Mailing instructions for the donated hair

Two big news pieces of note...

Sarahbeth is a fairly private person, but is sharing this news, along a few with photos, for friends and visitors to sarahbethpurcell.com exclusively:

Longtime couple Sarahbeth Purcell and Billy Mercer get engaged in
Nashville December 2007

Author and visual artist, Sarahbeth Purcell, as of last weekend, is now engaged to her (former) boyfriend of nearly five years, bass player, music producer and owner of a Nashville based home improvement business, Billy Mercer.

Billy's thoughtful proposal to Sarahbeth

No wedding date has been set, but nuptials sometime in early 2008 are very likely. Isn't the "Scrabble" proposal, considering Sarahbeth's "affinity for words", adorable?  Congratulations to the deliriously happy couple!

2006 Began Sarahbeth's journey as a professional visual artist, and 2008 looks like it will be her biggest year yet in that aim!

Beginning December 15, 2007, exciting new visual art pieces will be on display for viewing and sale at Edgehill Studios for the second year running.

AND...Beginning the first week of January, Sarahbeth will begin a four month residency as one of the FEATURED NEW ARTISTS at LOCAL COLOR ART GALLERY, with a new collection of her signature POPPIES for viewing and sale, including the piece you see above, titled "Tea For Two".
